DIRECTIONS FROM VERONA AIRPORT / AEROPORTO VALERIO CATULLO TO TOSCOLANO MADERNO

If you choose to arrive at Verona Airport (Aeroporto Valerio Catullo) and hire a car rather than travel to the nearest airport of Montichiari below you will find detailed directions of how to reach the Mirasole Self Catering Holiday Apoartment.
All that follows below may be summarised as:
On leaving the airport turn left and follow the signs for the motorway A4 Milano - Venezia (sometimes A4, other times A4 MI - VE). Take the motorway and exit at the junction Brescia Est. Follow the signs for Salò. Once you get to Salò continue on the same road (SP 45 bis) until you reach Toscolano Maderno. Then follow the map on the Know Britain site.
What follows is a much more detailed step by step account explaining one or two minor difficulties you might encounter.
General comments:
On your journey you will see numerous signs indicating the way to Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) these refer to different localities all round the lake. Do not pay attention to these as they all refer to the western and southern shores of the Lake. The Lake is enormous and there are numerous towns and villages. If you follow these directions it will be easy to reach your destination.
Motorway indications are always in green. The motorway signs relevant to your journey are those indicating the A4 (A = Autostrada = motorway), which is the Milan - Venice motorway. You will be travelling in the direction of Brescia and Milan (NOT Venezia (Venice). You will leave the motorway at the exit for Brescia Est. Below you will find detailed indications. At times you will see the green sign which simply says A4, at other times you will see A4 MI -VE; these are abbreviations for the full sign A4 Milano - Venezia (Milan - Venice).
Step by Step instructions
On leaving the airport turn left in the direction of Caselle and Sommacampagna (do NOT turn right although you will see indications for Lago di Garda, Lake Garda). As you travel along this road you will see the motorway which runs parallel on your right, just a few yards away.
Continue on the road you are already on, which is the SP26a. You will go through the village of Caselle. Remain on the main road and you will see green indications for the A4 (A = Autostrada = motorway). All motorway signposts are in green. Remain on the main road still following indications for A4 Milano - Venezia (A4 Milan - Venice). Keep on the main road and you will come to the first roundabout. At the roundabout continue to follow the indications for A4 MI - VE (A4 Milano - Venezia, A4 Milan - Venice). When you get to this first roundabout take the first exit on the right following the motorway sign A4 Milano - Venezia.
Follow this road until you get to the 2nd roundabout. The entrance to the A4 motorway is just off the roundabout. Just before the roundabout you will see high up the green Motorway indications: Brescia - Verona Vicenza - Padova. You must follow the directions for Brescia and Milan A4 / E70. At the roundabout take the second exit where you will see the toll booth marking the entrance to the motorway. Make your way to the toll booth furthest to your right. Avoid the toll booths marked "Telepass" and Viacard" as these are automatic systems allowing vehicles to go through without stopping, these are not for you. At the toll booth take the motorway ticket. This ticket should already be protruding half out of the machine and all you need to do is remain in the car, take it and keep it for when you leave the motorway. If the ticket is not accessible press the large red button and it will appear. Keep your ticket near at hand.
Once you have taken your ticket bear left in the direction of Milan & Brescia and join the motorway. Stay on this motorway until you get to the exit for Brescia Est, ignoring all signs for Lago di Garda.
The first exit on the motorway is Peschiera, second exit Sirmione, the third is Desenzano all exits have indications to Lago di Garda, ignore them. Exit the motorway at Brescia Est. When exiting the motorway avoid the booths where you see "Telepass" & "Viacard". At the toll booth remain in the car and hand over your ticket, pay the toll fee (2 euros 30 April 2010) to the man in the booth. The fee will appear on the price screen. When you get to the roundabout take the second exit following the signs for Lago di Garda Salò (25 kms). Keep following the signs for Salò. Keep on the main road and you will pass signs for Rezzato. You will then see two signs one for Brescia and one for Verona, follow the indications for Brescia, Salò, Lago di Garda occidentale.
Continue on this road as far as Salò (road SP45 bis). After Salò, and still keeping on the main road, you will pass through Barbarano, Gardone Riviera, Fasano and then Toscolano Maderno. Go as far as the centre, lakeside and two churches, one on the right and the other on the left.
